A Wee Caravan

I am all over this concept. I would love for my daughter to experience our community (with a more child friendly kind of gathering). We have been attending SCA events for several years now as part of our family vacation each summer (Clinton Wars are held in Clinton BC over the Aug. long weekend, this year being the 25 anniversery....., is going to be big!), but after being a part of Recomp, the people I met and the things I learned there...... :), I want my daughter to be around the kind of energy that inspires people to do great things...... or just plain strange things that no-one else has tried yet.

I'm sure we could get enough folks together in the lower mainland area (and those farther out too, with enough notice) with kids who would be into a kid friendly event.

Might I suggest Stanley Park as a location and perhaps Aug. as an approx. timeframe....., gives us a bit to put things in motion and have a turn out. set up for some songs, dancing, drums (of course) and some crafty type projects.

this is just off the top of my head here so feel free to suggest anything else, I just think it's a great idea for our kids.

You are a kid! Welcome aboard.

Supporting "aunties and uncles" are also welcome. In fact, I find aunts and uncles who dont have kids of their own have the most fun with mine!

    • I am leaving for the Rainbow on june 27th, monday from Portland, Oregon. After a gathering called Awakening to Native States. It's my wish that all the passengers will be at the gathering and then we can go from there! I have 3 spaces available, and am asking to split gas. I then am going to montreal if you want to stay on for that ride. I am selling my truck there and then flying back. We will have 5 days to get there for the beginning of the gathering on the 1st of July. Email me soon, since its not to far away....

      Much love and light,

Yeah Daimian!! Thanks for your inspirations!

There are so many events going on out there already I would like to put my energy towards creating the caravans to attend these....

I am taking my little tribe to The Oracle Gathering in Lake Bronson, Washington on June 3,4,5. Its $45 for the whole weekend and billed as a family event. The title of this one is Journey of the Shaman - its on tribe or go to www.oraclegathering.com for more info. There is a beautiful lake and waterfall, great music lined up and amazing workshops by Luna, St. Even and many others.

If anyone would like to connect to build a village for this event, please contact me.

    Wagons Ho!

Daimian - what is Clinton Wars????

Also, for all of you, the Islands Folk Festival in Duncan in mid-july is an awesome, mellow family event. We have a caravan of about 20-30 Galianoites and Salty Springers who go every year.

Does anyone else know of other possible kid AND adult friendly events...it is nice to be at events where both the kids and the adults get to experience FREEDOM!!!

the Clinton Wars are some battle re-enactments between the Kingdoms of the east n' west (Alberta vs BC) in medieval fasion.

Basically you create a character that may have lived between 600AD and 1600AD, from anywhere around the world and go live and breath as that character for the event (although we get a lot of pirates now because of that movie with Depp, they're closer to the 1700's).
near as I can tell...., there are 3 types that attend SCA events: Partiers - those who come to watch and stay up late, the Fighters -those who bring their armor (believe me, you need it!) and weapons and those who hold Court - they are VERY prim and proper about the Royalty and titles of Nobility.
through out the course of the event, there're are classes being tought about many, many medieval life, from dancing to cooking, the smalls (kids) even put on a play each year.

anyway, we go up a few days early ourselves, to help with lay out where roads and merchants will set up and to strengthen some of the structures after the winter, it's a huge community based society. the Society for Creative Anachronism

      that help?

PS anything south of the boarder is out for me (don't break the law kids...., 20yrs later, they still don't like my smilin' face)

Hi, Daimian! I know what you mean about the border--my husband's only a few years down from his "issues" and here we sit in Bellingham, unable to visit BC only a few miles away because of a legal screw-up.
Does the Canadian branch of SCA have much to do with the US branch? Does the SCA border stop at the mundane border? I have always been interested, but have not been able to seek out SCA folk since moving here.

the boarder doesn't effect SCA, but you guys are on the right side if you want to move up in rank or nobility...., tha BIG events are held State side, not to say we don't have some cool ones, but you have to attend Court and fight before Royalty if you want to move up the chain and be recognized.

I wish I found this place earliar. Indigo Pixie is the magical one travelling with me. If there are any events happening in the next couple weeks I'll be there. I live on the NOrth Shore, for now, but I'm heading to Europe for 10 months with the pixie. We were at Illuminares last night and I caught wiffs of a delicious vibe I have been pining for. Even the smallest bits are wonderful... a drum love, belly dance by firelight or shining sun... among the trees?
