I have 4 kids and for about 8 years I did the extreme gypsy lifestyle ... my family thought I was crazy, we lived off of $500 a month on Maui camping around and in Mexico and Washington etc and ususally travelled by bus or hitchhiking ( in the islands) and ususally moved every 3-6 months mas o menos and even though we're getting ready to move out of this house in northern new mexico boondocks I've had to fight my urge to get up and run somewhere new most of the time we've been here. Right now were looking at maybe getting land and setting up some Tipis but our plans always seem to be 'subject to change" ha ha ha, gotta love spontaneity. Anywho i have one other friend who shares this pathe and shes 50 and most of her kids are grown but we use this as our main topic of conversation , especially when we're jonesing to get up and leave.... So i guess that's it, I'll be checking in as often as I can.
From Vinobe Bhave's autobiography:

I walked through India for a full thirteen years...and in the course of these journies established six Ashrams. I called these Ashrams experimental laboratories. The thinking carried on in the Ashram will energize the work outside, and act as a source
of guidance and inspiration. Our Ashrams must serve as powerhouses for the areas in which they are placed. Let the power be felt throughout the neighbourhood, the power to build the kind of society to which we are committed: a society that manages its affairs non-violently, is unified by love and stands on its own feet, self-reliant and co-operative. Such a village society provides the best education, both spiritual and scientific, and takes care that every household should have full, productive work. Our chief task is the creation of a whole non-violent society - non-violent, strong, self-reliant, self-confident, free from hatred and fear.

We have been attending SCA events for several years now as part of our family vacation each summer (Clinton Wars are held in Clinton BC over the Aug. long weekend, this year being the 25 anniversery....., is going to be big!), but after being a part of Recomp, the people I met and the things I learned there...... :), I want my daughter to be around the kind of energy that inspires people to do great things...... or just plain strange things that no-one else has tried yet.

I'm sure we could get enough folks together in the lower mainland area (and those farther out too, with enough notice) with kids who would be into a kid friendly event.

Might I suggest Stanley Park as a location and perhaps Aug. as an approx. timeframe....., gives us a bit to put things in motion and have a turn out. set up for some songs, dancing, drums (of course) and some crafty type projects.

this is just off the top of my head here so feel free to suggest anything else, I just think it's a great idea for our kids.
